Kawartha Lakes Institutes New Housing Application Process!

Applying for Financially Assisted Housing?

Kawartha Lakes Sigma Six Green Belt Initiative Streamlines Housing Applications

Kawartha Lakes Shorter Housing Form Saves $$$$
As part of a process improvement initiative, a Kawartha Lakes Green Belt team drastically reduced the length of the application for financially assisted housing, and an online application was created, to allow clients easier access when applying.
“All aspects of the application were examined, and recreated based on legislative requirements, research and feedback that we received through our test groups,” said Hope Lee, Manager of Housing.
The previous application was 12-pages long with a guide that was an additional six pages. Eighteen pages in all were photocopied and handed out to anyone contemplating applying for housing. This application form has been replaced with a a choice of using a new three-page application or easy online application. This will mean a savings of about $1 per application form, as well as reducing the footprint of the program.

Kawartha Lakes Housing Application Process

While there are some special circumstances, most applicants will be placed on a wait list for two to six years after completing the housing application, and then contacted approximately six months prior to potentially receiving an offer.  At that time staff will collect current financial information, proof of citizenship, and will carefully review with the applicant their selected housing choices to ensure that they are choosing housing that meets their needs. Applicants can also find out more about each prospective location by viewing the associated online information page. Applications can be obtained and submitted online on the City of Kawartha Lakes website housing page or from the City of Kawartha Lakes Housing Department. For more information please call Hope Lee, Manager of Housing, 705-324-6401 extension 3102 .
