Mayoral Candidate News - Donna Villemaire 5 Time Winner?

Mayoral Candidate Donna Villemaire Wins AMO Appointment Fifth Time!

Mayoral Candidates are campaigning for votes in numerous ways. Does this press release from City of Kawartha Lakes show one candidate's willingness to use our tax dollars to further her campaign? Or is it misguided efforts by supporters?
Monday August 25th  the first all candidates debate will be held in Coboconk at the Coboconk Community Centre beginning at 6:30pm. If you can attend, you might ask Donna Villemaire about the appropriate use of tax dollars.
So far the following have pitched their hats in the ring for position of Mayor:
  • Bill Denby,
  • Brenda Karagiannis,
  • John Macklem,
  • Andy Letham, and
  •  Donna Villmaire.
Here is a press release we received from City of Kawartha Lakes :

KAWARTHA LAKES – Ward 8 Councillor Donna Villemaire has been appointed to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s board of directors for the 2014-2016 term. First elected to the board in 2007, this is the fifth time Coun. Villemaire has been elected by her municipal colleagues to sit as a director on the provincial association’s Regional and Single Tier Caucus.
Councillor Villemaire was also appointed to serve on AMO’s Audit Committee in 2012. As a member of the Board Councillor Villemaire will help set policy for the Association and serve as a key municipal leader in the Province.
“I am looking forward to working with my colleagues on mutual issues and concerns,” Coun. Villemaire said. “It is a privilege to represent the interests of Kawartha Lakes and other single-tiers at the provincial table. The networking opportunities are truly endless.”
The association develops policy positions and reports on issues of general interest to municipal governments; conducts ongoing liaison with provincial government elected and non-elected representatives; informs and educates governments, the media and the public on municipal issues; markets innovative and beneficial services to the municipal sector; and maintains a resource centre on issues of municipal interest.
AMO is a non-profit organization representing almost all of Ontario’s 444 municipal governments, supporting strong and effective municipal government in Ontario and promoting the value of municipal government as a vital and essential component of Ontario and Canada’s political system. The AMO board of directors has representation from communities across the province. They meet five times a year to discuss issues they have in common, to develop policy positions and to offer cost-saving programs and training to its membership. AMO was formed in 1899 and held its first meeting in Hamilton.
