Kawartha Lakes Flood Watch Includes Pigeon Lake!

Kawartha Lakes Residents : Flood Waters Rise!

Kawartha Region Conservation Authority (KRCA) has issued a Flood Watch for Kawartha Lakes specifically the shoreline areas of Balsam, Cameron and Sturgeon Lakes and the northern portion of Pigeon Lake.
Water levels are expected to increase over the weekend and next week. There is the potential for flooding to occur along shorelines, in near shore areas, and in low-lying areas.
The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) issued a flood warning for the Gull River, Burnt River and Irondale River Watersheds as warm weather and forecasted rain combined with the rapid melting of the remaining snow pack in the Haliburton area have produced increased runoff to lakes and rivers. This warning is in effect until Monday, April 22.

Flooding Emergency : Are You Prepared?

In advance of flood waters arriving, with the possibility of road closures, residents should have sufficient emergency supplies, make personal arrangements for alternative accommodations, move items to higher ground where required, and ensure that sump pumps are in good working order.
Volunteer firefighters worked through the afternoon today filling sand bags for Burnt River residents, sand and sandbags are available at the Burnt River Depot at 90 County Rd. 44. Residents in Coboconk can pick up sandbags at the Coboconk Depot at 2863 County Rd. 48.

Kawartha Lakes Flood Water Levels

According to the Environment Canada Real Time Hydrometric Data the Burnt River is at 5.787 meters as of 5:30pm Friday evening. Residents of the Shadow Lake area should be aware that water levels may rise rapidly as the flood surge moves through. Trent-Severn Waterway officials report that water levels and flow are already extremely high in the upper reaches of the Gull and Burnt rivers. As water moves down through the system, the potential for flooding will be high.

The City of Kawartha Lakes Public Works and Fire Departments are working closely with MNR, TSW, KRCA and neighbouring municipalities as this situation progresses.
