Omemee Historical Society Writing Contest Award Winners Honoured Today

Omemee and District Historical Society Annual Book Fair Coronation Hall

Trevor Kennedy, a Grade 4 student at Lady Eaton Elementary School in Omemee. and runner up Alanna Laskovich, Grade 9 I.E. Weldon student  will be guests of honour today at the  Historical Society’s annual Book Fair.

Each year, Omemee and District Historical Society hold a short-story writing contest. in conjunction with their book fair. The contest for 2011 was a little different this year, in that it was only open to students. One concern in the past few weeks was whether the competition was going to be receiving many entries, since although the Historical Society submitted details of the contest to local schools several months ago, none of the children they asked about the contest had even heard about it.
Trevor’s short –story. while it does not feature Omemee, does an excellent job of leaving an impression on the reader. While Alanna’s story features Omemee, and the intriguing train setting makes the reader want to find out more about the characters travelling to Omemee.

Both prize-winnings stories can be viewed online at mykwartha.com. 10-year-old Trevor Kennedy’s story was also reprinted in the print copy of Lindsay This Week,
Omemee Pigeon eFlyer wishes to congratulate all entrants for their efforts, and thank the Omemee and District Historical Society for helping make Omemee a better place to live and visit.
Omemee and District Historical Society Book Fair is on at the Coronation Hall Saturday Apr. 9th starting at 10:30 a,m,
